Intergenerational Dialogues

Greycells aims at building two main bridges: between seniors and youth, and between local and international communities. Greycells’ 10th anniversary in 2018 inaugurated a series of Intergenerational Dialogues (IGs) on international agenda topics.  The results of an online multilingual world-wide and Geneva-based survey provided with inputs to the debates. Numerous partners representing various official and civil society stakeholders participated in all stages of these events. All seven past IGs can be accessed at https://greycells.ch/intergenerational-dialogues/    The following three Dialogues stand out because of the relevance of their topics and the quality of the debates.

international civil service

100 Years of International Civil Service

In 1920, with the establishment of the League of Nations in Geneva a new profession was created: international civil servants implement the mandates of member States and defending the values and goals of international organisations’ foundational treaties. Held on 21 November 2019, this Dialogue was inspired by the book ‘Eric Drummond and His Legacies. The League of Nations and the Beginnings of Global Governance’, by David MacFadyen, Michael D. V. Davies, Marylin Norah Carr, and John Burley, University of Southampton, Palgrave Macmillan, 2019. Neutrality and independence but not silence, political appointees, difficult leadership, and endemic financial crises were discussed in a candid way.
